www.tuxedofit.com One of the most common questions we are asked as fitting professionals is “What tuxedo is right for me?” Tuxedos today come in such a wide variety of styles, fits, and fabrics that it can seem overwhelming when trying to choose the perfect ensemble for your special event. But here are a few basic types and fits to consider when weighing your options:
Tuxedo (or Tux): Tuxes were once most commonly found in 100% wool but can now be rented or purchased in blends from Super 100's to Super 150's fabrics. Tuxedos have satin somewhere on the garment, most often on the lapel, outlining the pockets, and covering the buttons. Tuxedo pants most often have a satin stripe down the outside of the legs.
Classic Fit: So named for its traditional cut, Classic Fit tuxedos tend to be less fitted around the waistline, with a straighter, less tapered fit. Pants legs are straight. Good for all shapes and sizes.
Modern Fit: Great for a wide range of body types, the Modern Fit allows for shoulder breadth while accommodating a smaller waistline. Coats have a moderate taper and have a more fitted look than the Classic Fit. Slim Fit: Designed for individuals of a slender form, not optimal for those with wider shoulders or waistlines. The Slim Fit is cut narrow across the shoulders and tapered further at the waist than either the Modern or Classic Fits. Pants legs are more narrow as well.
Suit: Available in a variety of fabrics and cuts, suits, unlike tuxedos, do not have satin anywhere on the garment, and the buttons are not covered.
